*THIS WEEK: MOVIE @ THE CO-OP ON FRIDAY - "POWER TRIP" by Paul Devlin*
A comic clash of culture combusts when an American energy company tries to
transform the dysfunctional electricity system in Tbilisi, capital of the
former Soviet Republic of Georgia. In an environment of pervasive
corruption, assassination, and street rioting, the story of chaotic
post-Soviet transition is told through culture clash, electricity
disconnections and blackouts. AES Corp., the massive American "global power
company," has purchased the privatized electricity distribution company in
Tbilisi... See "http://www.powertrip-themovie.com":http://www.powertrip-themovie.com for reviews and a preview. "Superbly balanced and organized." "S. Holden, The New York Times":http://powertripthemovie.com/archive/reviews/NYTimes/NYTimes.html
We'll start the evening with a *potluck at 7:30pm*, and show the *movie at
8:30pm*. Visit "www.durhamfoodcoop.org/movie":www.durhamfoodcoop.org/movie for more details and updates or

*UPDATE: WHAT'S GOING ON AT THE CO-OP*
Last week we had the great honor being the beneficiaries of a wonderful "benefit concert":http://www.durhamfoodcoop.org/benefit put on by a Co-op member and neighbor, raising $230 for Co-op improvements. This week began with the challenge of our main produce cooler not being so cool. However, a long time Co-op member and amazing refrigeration technician, Gene Dillard, has come to the rescue and we expect our cooler to be very cool later this week.
The Co-op is growing. Long-time members are re-appearing and new members are stepping up with new ideas and energy. We would love to hear your voice and ideas at the next board meeting this Sunday at 4pm at the Co-op. We will discuss Board recruitment among other things. We need help and input with the Co-op's operations as well as short-term and long-term goals. If you're a member, you're an owner - you have the power to shape the Co-op! Contact Sven at "sven.rinke@gmail.com":mailto:sven.rinke@gmail.com for more information.

*WANTED: BOARD MEMBERS TO HELP THE CO-OP GROW*
If you're reading this, you must have some interest in the process of how
the Co-op operates. Have you ever considered being a part of that process by
being a member of the Board of Directors? It's a great way to use your
talents and decision making abilities to contribute to the community. We are
actively seeking applicants to serve on a seven member board. We are
expanding our current number by two to spread the workload and increase the
flow of ideas in this important time in the Co-op's history. Being on the
Board of Directors is rewarding in many ways. We don't need people who are
going to agree with everything we're doing. We need people who can look at
things with a fresh perspective and offer new ideas. We try not to just vote
on issues and have winners and losers, we really want to hear different ways
of thinking, and then arrive at a consensus we can all live with. If you or
anyone you know is interested in a position on the Board of Directors,
please contact Sven by phone (919) 842-3883 or email "sven.rinke@gmail.com":sven.rinke@gmail.com to
ask questions or talk more about the position. You may want to consult "this useful guide":http://www.cgtp.duke.edu/%7Erinke/DFC/Cooperatives.pdf for
