After the voters, the generals, and the Iraq Study Group all told President Bush to lead us out of Iraq, he is planning on sending even more troops. Congress can stop escalation in Iraq, but they need to hear from us.

We're expecting a big fight over whether to block the escalation in the House over the next month. To get ready for it, and to help get more people involved we're organizing a Movie Night. On Thursday, February 15th, MoveOn members across the country are coming together with their neighbors to watch The Ground Truth and then write letters to their Congressperson.

The Ground Truth is one of the most important films to watch as we contemplate escalating the war in Iraq. It will remind folks that this is not just about troop numbers and dollar amounts. This is about real lives that will never be the same even if they make it home.

Hailed as "powerful" and "quietly unflinching," The Ground Truth stunned filmgoers at the 2006 Sundance and Nantucket Film Festivals. The subjects of Patricia Foulkrod's searing documentary feature are patriotic young Americans - ordinary men and women who heeded the call for military service in Iraq. The terrible conflict in Iraq, depicted with ferocious honesty in the film, is a prelude for the even more challenging battles fought by the soldiers returning home - with personal demons, an uncomprehending public, and an indifferent government. As these battles take shape, each soldier becomes a new kind of hero, bearing witness and giving support to other veterans, and learning to fearlessly wield the most powerful weapon of all - the truth.
